UMM SARA What We Carry Honour what shaped you. Choose what continues.

Does any of this sound familiar?

You hear your mum's words come out of your own mouth, and you're not sure you meant them.
You love your family deeply, and some of what you were given still feels heavy to carry.
You want to honour your parents and still do a few things differently.
"What will people say?" still decides more than you would like it to.
You can't always tell what comes from faith, and what is simply how things were done.
You are not the only one. And none of this makes you ungrateful.

AHL MEANS FAMILY

Keep the root. Gently reshape the branch.

What We Carry is not about blaming anyone, and it is not about pretending. It is an honest, merciful look at what the people who raised you passed down, so you can carry the good forward with gratitude, and with the help of Allah ﷻ, let a heavy pattern change with you.

None of us has to carry it alone.

ROOTED IN QUR'AN AND SUNNAH

'And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."'

SURAH AL-ISRA' 17:24

Gentle, carefully sourced, never preachy

Each chapter rests on a passage from the Qur'an or the Sunnah, and helps you see what comes from faith and what comes from culture or habit. The passages are offered for reflection, not as tafsir or rulings. For questions of rulings, the book points you to people of knowledge.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Umm Sara

Umm Sara writes from lived experience, not clinical training. She grew up within difficult family dynamics, spent six years receiving Islamic counselling to work through them, and has spent twenty years reflecting on how families pass things on, and how, with the help of Allah ﷻ, a pattern can change. Her social impact work brings her alongside women, people in prison, young and old, and people with special needs.

Questions you might have

What exactly do I receive?

A 147-page A4 fillable PDF and an editable Word version. Both arrive by email straight after checkout.

Can I fill it in on my phone or tablet?

A tablet or laptop is the most comfortable for typing into the pages. On a phone, use a PDF app that supports forms. You can also print any page and write by hand.

Why isn't it on Kindle?

Kindle can't hold fillable pages, and What We Carry is meant to be written in.

What if I miss a day?

Carry on the next day. One missed day makes little difference, and Day 30 is a review, not a finish line. You can begin a new round whenever you are ready.

Is this about blaming my parents?

No. The book speaks of parents with respect throughout. It helps you look back with gratitude and honesty, so you can keep what is good and choose what continues.

Can I give it as a gift?
